Hand Knitting

My first hobby was knitting by hand, which was taught to me by my mother, at an early age and we had some great days knitting and comparing notes.  I come from a family of knitters and my cousin still knits.  Mum went on to do some fantastic lace tablecloths, more adventurous knitting projects like designer sweaters and intarsia but at the beginning I worked on simple items.  I became really interested in aran knitting and when I became engaged and subsequently married I knitted quite a few arans for my husband and they can’t have been too bad as he was quite happy to wear them out and about and not just at home.  Since having grand-children I have knitted many baby and infant garments.  Of course the children’s items knit up far quicker.   I have recently taken up aran knitting again, one for an adult and four baby ones.

This is an adult sweater I made for my husband just before Christmas, having returned to hand-knitting after a long time of absence.  The yarn used was Debbie Bliss DK in Indigo
