Jersey C.I. Coastline.

Sunsets looking towards our sister Isle Guernsey from Jersey’s North Coast. What is the old saying? Red Sky at night Jersey’s delight because Guernsey is on fire.

      A joke honestly!

Jersey C.I. Coastline.

                                                              “Splash”

The incoming tide as it reached the boulders at the bottom of the sea wall in St.Ouen’s Bay.

Jersey C.I. Coastline ( Ouaisne )

Ouaisne Bay is on the south west corner of Jersey Channel Islands. It is in the same bay as St.Brelade’s Bay. It is separated only by a small outcrop of rocks. In the middle of the common above the seawall is a Martello Tower from the days of fighting with Napoleon and a cannon mounted from where i am taking the photo from. The Martello Tower is now a navigation mark for boats. On the common there lives the Agile Frog, it only lives in Jersey. Also on hot summer days you can see the Green Lizard sunning it’s self in the hot sun and in the evenings it can be found on top of the seawall getting the heat out of the concrete. The beach is safe and the water very clean. Good bass fishing in the winter but in the summer to much activity going on the water.

Jersey C.I. Coastline. ( High Tide )

High Tide at St. Ouen’s Bay which is on the west coastline of Jersey. As the tide comes up it hits the sea wall and then rebounds into the next wave that is coming in, so you get a crush of the two waves that can reach up to 80 to 100 feet at times. The whole of the promenade shakes and a huge boom can be heard when the wave hits the wall. If the high tide coincidence with a high wind it really is worth seeing.

Jersey C.I. Coastline. ( Portelet Bay )

This is Portelet Bay one if the best bays in the Island. It sits on the south coast between Noirmont Point and Ouaisne Bay. There are alot of steps going down to the bay but it is worth it. On the island in the middle of the bay is Janvrin’s Tomb. The gorse flowers all year round but in summer it really shows you how lovely it is in the summer sun. The picture on the left was taken from the headland of Noirmont.

Jersey C.I. Coastline.( Green Island Beach ).

This is Green Island Beach which is on the south eastern coast of the Island. The little summer house gives it an oriental flavour i think. It is called Green Island because there is a very small island of earth and stone with prehistoric remains on it and the top of this island has grass growing on it. I shall put a photo up later on of the small island.

Jersey C.I. Coastline. ( Plemont Caves )

This is a photo of the waterfall inside one of the caves that are found on Plemont Beach on the north coast of the Island. It is a very clean beach because the tide covers it every tide and the waves are normal really good. Children love the beach because of the caves. Don’t forget to click on photo to enlarge.

Jersey C.I. Coastline Photos. ( Bonne Nuit )

This is “Bonne Nuit Harbour”  ( good night ) it is on the North Coast . On the west side is the Harbour and to the east is “La Crete Fort”. The boats that harbour here are mostly small fishing boats with other boats big enough to go across to France which you can see from the North coast of Jersey. La Crete Fort is one of the “Jersey Heritage” sites that you can stay in for a holiday. The two main places which people go to from Bonne Nuit in France are “Carteret” and “Portbail” and of course the “Ecrehous” lie between Jersey and France so they are visited on many occasions for a day out but having said that people go to France just for a day out. The French open markets are very good and interesting. There two other little harbours like Bonne Nuit going towards the east of the island around the coast which i shall be posting in the future. All along the North Coast is a footpath for ramblers with great views. In the photo below you can see La Crete Fort it is on the first piece of land that sticks out into the sea.

Surfing.

Surfing in St. Ouen’s Bay which is on the west coast of Jersey. The beach is called locally “The Five Mile Road” among other names. The beach is about 3 miles in length. Time passed farmers would take their horse and cart along the beach to get to the other end of the bay, it was decided when motorized vehicles came inti use that a road was needed. The States of Jersey bought a strip of land about 100 yds from the high tide mark and built a road also they realised that sea walls were needed so they started building them where the tide came up in the highest place first. The Occupation came and the Nazis with slave labour finished the sea walls around the Island for defence against the Allies if they should try to liberate the Island. The whole of the area is sand dunes behind the sea wall and they rise to roughly about 200ft.  The beach is used for all sorts of water sports and motor car/bike racing but all year round the surfers are there. The beach holds Championship Surf Competitions because the surf is usually very good. On any day that the tide is out you can see kite surfing, sail boarding, sand yachts and skate boards being pulled along by a kite. When flying into the Island the planes 90% of the time come in over St.Ouen’s Bay and it does even if i say so myself  looks terrific to see the long stretch of sandy beach and waves coming in onto the beach.
