I am not sure but I think I know this place because my Mum and Dad used to go to that beach every weekend when they used to live in a flat in town. My Dad and my son, who was only about nine years old sat on a rock somewhere near the position you took the photograph from and waited for the tide to come in up to their necks. It is where they used to have a bus selling hot dogs and beach goods, don’t know if they still do as I have not passed along their for a while, have a bus selling hotdogs and beach stuff.
I think it is Mary Jane Slip near the Le Hocq pub. Isn’t that where a lot of white clay pipes are found on the beach. These pipes were dumped their in olden times when they were broken.
Spot on! I did not know it was called Mary Jane so what is the history to that name? The snack shack gives a really good bacon roll and a cup of tea. I was on my way back from Gorey with the two young grandchildren we had been on the swings at the Old Railway Station Gorey. It is lovely there but i would think the people in the apartments that overlook the play area are not to pleased.
You know Yogi Bear I don’t think Mary Jane slip is there at La Hocq at all – sorry to have misled you. I think I have got it confused with the other slipway near the Seymour Inn another beach that my parents used to love.
I don’t know why it was called the Mary Jane slipway. I never asked my Dad!
