Gardening

Well i have planted some Jersey Royals and put some plastic over them. Last year i only plant about 15 tubers and had quite alot of spuds which tasted a bit better than the shop ones. I do not use any fertilizer only the compost that i make from household waste and leaves. I grow runner beans every year and they do well, they also shade the sun from the rabbit and guinea pig enclosure during the hot  summer weather ( when we get some ). Shall have to renew quite a few plants because of the cold weather we had during the winter. Roll on summer.

I have to renew lots of plants because of the frost. So about 4 weeks time i shall take a visit to the nursery and see what they have. I like big plants with plenty of flowers for the summer. I might get some more heathers because they give so much colour in winter and the bees love them.

My Jersey Royals are also planted. I put them in about three weeks ago when the farmer next door put his crop in. My broad beans that I planted out in October 2009 are about eight inches high now and flowering. I expect an early crop from them and they survived three frosts without many losses. Just have to spend a few hours keeping them weed-free now. About to put a few early lettuce and radish in. Hope the warming up of the weather continues. Oh yes! I am going to put in some Swiss Chard too because they grow and grow and grow and do nicely as a green salad and the stalks are great too as a veg dish.
